Anyone
keeping score probably noticed that I am continuing in the role as the
Post 162 Service Officer. This is one of the positions for which
continuity is strongly recommended by our National Headquarters, because
the value of a Service Officer increases with experience. I learned a
great deal in my rookie year and I am glad our Commander asked me to
remain, as I find a personal value and satisfaction in the work I do and
the assistance I provide.
I reaffirm
my offer for assisting all members of our Post in the preparation of
applications and claims and personal research involving Department of
Veterans Affairs’ benefits and Service records. I will continue using
this space as well as our Post Newsletter
(My current article is
here.) to provide information on matters affecting health
care, benefits, Service awards, and Congressional legislation. I invite
you to stop by the Post and pick up several informative benefit
publications offered in our library case.
We held our
Benefits and Entitlements Seminar in November. It was well
attended and our presenters provided very informative briefings.
You may view presentations given by Ms. Laura Paul, Army Retirement
Services Office and Mr. Geoffrey White, Virginia Department of Veterans
Services by clicking on the links below.
I look forward to hearing
from you.

"You have been
singly honored by this Post by your election to perform fundamental,
unselfish work, not only for the benefit of the members of this
Post, but for those War veterans particularly in need of your
service. Yours is the choice responsibility of looking out for the
welfare of all concerned. The duties of a Service Officer are highly
important and exacting, and while your accomplishments will be
deeply appreciated by those immediately concerned, the work itself
will not be sufficiently conspicuous to catch the headlines in the
newspapers. Depending upon satisfactory performance of duty, there
will come to you the heartfelt gratitude of each and every member of
this post. I congratulate you upon the opportunity to serve so
constructively and so unselfishly." |
