BOYS STATE

 Committee Chairman - Rod Sansone

Boys State is a comprehensive one-week course in state and local government. Virginia American Legion Boys State is a "leadership action program" where qualified male high school rising seniors take part in a practical government course. It is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon the citizen the fact that our government is just what we make it. Along the way they will have the opportunity to learn the political process. Those delegates who are elected to serve will run each level of government.  Instruction will be presented on the law and court system, parliamentary procedure and Virginia political history.

Dear American Legion Post 162:

Thank you for sponsoring me for attending Virginia Boys' State this summer. I learned a lot about government through my participation on the City Council and as a member of the Moot Court. I was proud to be an active member of Nimitz City - we won the Best City Award! Also, I was pleased by the number of high level state leaders that came to speak to us throughout the week. The entire week was an enriching experience which I will remember and value for the rest of my life.
I am thankful for American Legion Post 162's support of the Boys' State program in Virginia.
