At the 2005 Junior Shooting Sports Program Tournament, Dennis LaPorte, Chairman- JSSP, was awarded the Department of the Army Commander's Award for Public Service.  The award reads:

"For exceptional meritorious support to the Army JROTC programs and the Junior Shooting Sports Program of Fairfax County, Virginia.  His tireless efforts in obtaining resources, teaching safe marksmanship and support for Regional Competitions has resulted in a higher standard for all Marksmanship programs.  Mr. LaPorte's dedication and commitment to excellence reflects great credit upon himself, American Legion Post 162 and the American Legion."
